Introducing Northern Comfort Finance – and Northern Comfort Reconcile

Today we're introducing our new product series: Northern Comfort Finance — a growing family of small, focused apps for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central that make everyday finance work more comfortable. And the first module is available now: Northern Comfort Reconcile.

The Idea Behind the Series

Many Business Central extensions come as big suites: you buy a package and end up using a fraction of it. Northern Comfort Finance deliberately takes the opposite approach:

  • One module, one problem. Each app solves exactly one concrete task from everyday finance work — and solves it well.
  • Standalone by design. Every module works on its own. No base app, no hidden dependencies.
  • Buy what you need. All modules are available individually. You pick exactly the comfort you need.

The series will grow over time — more modules are already in the works.

The First Module: Northern Comfort Reconcile

If you've ever closed a period in Business Central, you know the problem: the standard reconciliation window shows the balance across the entire period — but not the balance as of a specific date. Yet that's exactly what you need when reconciling at month-end or year-end.

Northern Comfort Reconcile brings a balance preview with a date filter right into the general journal. Before you post, you see how your journal lines affect account balances — in two modes:

  1. Reconciliation accounts mode: The fast option. Calculates the balances of your reconciliation accounts as of any date you choose — a pure balance calculation, no waiting.
  2. Full posting preview: The detailed option. Combines the complete posting preview — including automatically generated entries such as VAT, payment discounts, and applications — with the balance overview as of your chosen date.

One detail that mattered to us: postdated journal lines are a perfectly legitimate scenario during period-end closing. So Reconcile warns about lines after the chosen date — but never blocks you.

Pricing and Availability

Northern Comfort Reconcile is available for Business Central Online at € 300 per year per production environment. You can try it free for 30 days on Microsoft AppSource.
